The downtown complex of CEU has been complemented in 2016 with a new building at 15 Nador Street designed by the award-winning Irish O'Donnel - Tuomey Architects. The Neo-Classicist urban palace at 13 Nador Street originally designed by József Hild was also renovated by last autumn. It was an exciting challenge for the designing architects to create a modern university unit into a block that includes historical monuments as well. They also had to find a solution how to incorporate the Neo-Classicist palace that had been reconstructed several time, preserving and emphasizing what is left from the original values. The tour guides through the CEU campus starting from the Neo-Classicist Festetics Palace at 9 Nador Street, presenting the Art Nouveau, originally apartment house at 11 Nador Street. It continues to the freshly renovated Nador 13 and to the modern building at 15 Nador Street. The rooftop garden offers a unique view over the Danube.

The inner Leopold Town gained a city look since the first decades of the 19th century. The earliest building that are still standing at their same place were the city palaces of noble families, many of these are works of the most excellent architects of Hungarian classicism. Today the main building at Nádor street 9 of Central European University is the onetime Festetics Palace, work of Mihály Pollack. It was in the previous year the university moved back - upon the completion of the new building - to the Nádor 13 building. The Október 6. street n. 7, onetime Marczibányi Palace provides its premises to a few of the university's units. During the guided walk the visitors can look around in this building as well that was designed by József Hild. Its rooms upstairs, that are usually hidden before visitors, conserved several original details - murals, furniture.

It is not only monument buildings, but also newly designed structures that provide home for Central European University. This duality challenged the designers in many ways, it was important that the new facilities would fit in, meet the requirements from the points of view of visual harmony, heritage conservation and university functions. During the walk we are going to discuss these issues, passing through the four buildings in the Nádor street, starting from the Festetics Palace that is the university's home since the beginning until the new structure designed by the Irish award-winning architectural studio O’Donnell–Tuomey. Our path takes us from the classicist palace designed by Mihály Pollack at Nádor 9 to the recently rebuilt building designed by József Hild at Nádor 13. Then we will proceed to see the entirely new and the only one building open to public at Nádor 15. We close our walk by visiting the rooftop, from where it is possible to admire most of the iconic highlights of Budapest Downtown.

Among the first tenants of the palace designed by Mihály Pollack built in the 19th century were lawyer firms and commercial banks, later after the nationalisation the Economic Council and later the military intelligence used the building, just as the National Planning Office, beside others, until the 60's. The palace is the home of Central European University since 1992. The tour presenting the historical building's story will be made special by Soharóza choir's musical illustrations.

Since the beginning of the 19th century this part of Downtown played an important role in Budapest's architecture. Mihály Pollack and József Hild, the era's most significant architects designed new buildings here and important creations of the beginning of the 20th century During the walk the visitors can get familiar with the local history, typical building types of the socialist era and they can enter buildings that otherwise would not be visitable. They can walk around the late socialism's "impex" buildings that were created partly by remodeling the downtown structures of the previous centuries, partly as new, modern products. During the walk we are also searching to understand how these fit or didn't fit into the Downtown's constructed heritage.
